Car Insurance Is A Must

Did you know in 48 states, you’re required by law to carry car insurance?

Not only is car insurance designed to protect you, but it also protects others.

Common Car insurance basics and options

Insurance protects you and your assets in case of loss, injury or damage; either caused by you, or by someone else.

Auto insurance usually consists of the following protections:

  • Liability: protects others involved in accident for their property damage, car damage(s) and/or injury(s), in case you are found at fault.
  • Collision: in the event your car is damaged by a collision with another car or object..
  • Comprehensive: if your car is damaged by anything other than collision, most commonly glass damage, windshield breakage, colliding with an animal.

But additional protection may include:

  • Medical Payments - a selected limit of injury protection, even if you are not at fault; if you have to pay on an injury for yourself or a passenger.
  • Emergency Road Service - a selected, optional coverage, most useful if you are ever stranded in your vehicle.
  • Uninsured Motorist Protection - provides protection for you and your passengers in a not at-fault accident, against uninsured drivers.

Insurance Follows The Car

When considering your car insurance protection, in most states, the insurance follows the car.

This means if you allow a family member or friend to drive your car and they have an at -fault accident, your insurance pays.

The at-fault driver would receive charges against their drivers license, but would not be responsible for damage done to another's property, car, or their injuries.

Your car insurance is primary.  Your driver, if they have insurance, would be secondary, and only if your limits of liability were completely used up and you had no  Personal Umbrella insurance policy.

If the driver does not have insurance and you do not have a Personal Umbrella policy, legal actions could occur for resolution towards the owner of the car.

Protection You Need

Out of all the claims we see on a daily basis, few are as frequent, or as potentially life-changing, as accidents involving an automobile.

You may think you want the cheapest insurance you can find, but your policy may not cover as much as you think, potentially leaving you at risk.

Keep in mind, you cannot buy insurance after you have an accident.

As your agent of choice, it is our job to keep you safe and protected.
