It’s The Holidays: Tie One On For Safety

Holiday time is upon us! A whirlwind of family gatherings, good food, fellowship and parties. Though holidays are usually joyous and fun, remember they can become deadly.
Thanksgiving weekend through New Year’s Day is, statistically speaking, found to be the most dangerous time of year to travel. On average, 45 fatalities are estimated each day which involves an alcohol impaired party. This estimate increases up to 54 fatalities on New Year’s Eve.
This week kicks off Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD)’s longest and most visible public awareness project: Tie One On For Safety®. This project started over 29 years ago and continues each Thanksgiving holiday weekend through New Year’s Day.
Tie One On For Safety: Place a MADD red ribbon on a visible location on your vehicle — on the door handle, antenna, etc. Help get the message out to others if they must drink this holiday season to always designate a non-drinking driver, take a taxi, or share a ride with a sober friend.
